Leamington Fu Garden Chinese takeaway fined for food hygiene offences – Coventry Telegraph

The owner of a Leamington Chinese takeaway has been fined £1,500 after inspectors witnessed poor personal hygiene from employees handling food.

Bruce Fu, operator of Fu Garden, in Spencer Street, pleaded guilty to magistrates in relation to five offences in relation to Food Hygiene Regulations.

Warwick District Council brought the proceedings for hygiene offences witnessed by inspectors in November 2012.

They visited Fu Garden during the evening to carry out a routine inspection and found the premises to be dirty and in a poor state of repair.

£90k payout for family of Massey Ferguson worker who died of asbestos-related cancer – Coventry Telegraph

A family has been awarded £90,000 in compensation following the death of a Coventry worker from cancer.
Frank Parker claimed he had been exposed to asbestos years ago while working for city-based Massey Ferguson.
He died of an asbestos-related cancer in June 2011 at the age of 73.
His
family’s fight for justice after his death has now been settled following an appeal in the Coventry Telegraph for other workers to come forward.

Duck boats grounded by marine agency – Telegraph

Safety checks have led to the grounding of seven tourist “duck boats” by the Marine and Coastguard Agency.

The move by the Agency, which involves seven out of nine boats operated by London Duck Tours, comes in the wake of an incident in Liverpool last month when 31 passengers and two crew had to scramble to safety after another duck boat foundered at Salthouse Dock.

Three Kettering restaurants in breach of health rules – – Northamptonshire Telegraph

Three restaurants have been taken to court after poor standards were found during routine food hygiene tests.

Action was taken against the Kettering restaurants following inspections by the borough council’s health protection team.Wai’s Chinese takeaway in Field Street, the New Village Chinese takeaway in Granville Street and Mazza Indian restaurant in Pegasus Court, on the Kettering Business Park, have been before magistrates over the last three weeks.

Council bans bin collection over ‘unsafe’ new housing estate – Telegraph

Health and safety experts ruled out kerbside collections earlier this month because the estate is still under construction.

But residents who have been safely living in the completed properties for 18 months have branded the decision “health and safety gone mad”.

Homeowners – some in their late 70s – now have to drag their wheelie bins up to 100 yards to communal collection points at Brynards Park in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wilts.

Lifeboats launched as ferry strikes moorings at Harwich – Telegraph

The RNLI has launched two lifeboats after a ferry carrying nearly 500
passengers collided with its moorings.

The vessel, named Sirena Seaways, of the DFDS fleet, was reported to have struck Parkeston Quay at Harwich International Port, although there were no reports of any injuries
