BEIJING: Four workers died while nine others were missing in a gas explosion at a coal mine in central China.
The accident occurred on Friday night in a 533-deep tunnel in Ruzhou City located in Henan province, where 250 miners were working underground, Li Yongsheng, assistant chief engineer of China Pingmei Shenma Group, shareholder of the coal mine said.
At least 26 villagers have died from cadmium poisoning and hundreds have fallen ill near a disused factory in central China, according to mainland media.
The China Youth Daily says soil samples from Shuangqiao in Hunan province contained 300 times the authorised cadmium levels.

One person is dead and seven are missing following a boating accident in Central China’s Hunan province local authorities said on Monday.
The accident happened at 3 am on Sunday when a ship on its way to Pingkou township capsized in waters in Pingshan village in Anhua county, causing four cargo vehicles and 11 people on board to fall into the water.
Three people were rescued.
