Lanarkshire plant at centre of NHS toxic waste crisis infested by rats – Daily Record

An incineration plant at the centre of Scotland’s clinical waste crisis has become infested with rats, it has been claimed.

Hundreds of tons of toxic materials were left at the former Healthcare Environmental Services (HES) facility in Shotts, Lanarkshire, after the company collapsed last year.

Howard Cunningham, 65, who lives in a cottage near the abandoned facility, said: “Rats are a real problem and it has become worse since the plant closed down.

“I put down poison at night and, by the morning, it has all gone.
