This photo is a prime example of the misuse of plant and equipment. It
is extremely doubtful
if the manufacturers’ of either the cherry picker or the extension
ladder have ever thought
about using their equipment in this configuration, let alone approved
the application.
When using any type of plant it should be designed and constructed for
the task or the range
of tasks to be undertaken. If an elevated work platform is not high
enough to undertake the
task safely you never use a ladder or other device to gain extra height.
The basket of the
cherry picker provides you with a high level of fall protection, only if
you are standing in the
basket.
Remember, falls from heights are the major cause of deaths in the
construction industry.
